NATO Summit - Your Perspective
So I was just curious: with the NATO Summit weekend here, how is it affecting you this weekend, if at all? Are you protesting, or do you know anyone who is? Any concerns/thoughts/feelings about the summit? I live and work out in the suburbs, so I won't be affected directly. I have family who live in the South Loop who are staying with me this weekend, and I know of a few people who work downtown who are working from home Friday and maybe Monday. I was watching the news Thursday night, and there was coverage of some protesters who were already out. It seems like people I've talked to have ranged from irritated to indifferent, mostly about the disruption to everyday activities. I just wanted to get some other perspectives on this. | 10:30 pm [frozen_fields]

MSW from UIC I am looking into Jane Addams for my MSW. I would be moving from Tulsa, Oklahoma so this is a huge life transition on top of choosing a school/program. First question-- how difficult is it to get accepted into this program, UIC in general? Has anyone else gotten their MSW from Jane Addams? How was your experience? Thank you! | | Friday, May 4th, 2012 | 1:14 pm [_shaomao_]

Sounded Interesting, Thought I'd Pass It Along 826 Chicago and the Boring Store present The Clandestine QuestCalling all secret agents. Skulk, scurry and scavenge throughout Wicker Park and Bucktown, as you track down clues and secret hideouts in order to solve a great mystery.
Beware. Competing agencies will also be on the prowl and subterfuge will be afoot. Where your typical scavenger hunt has much to do with brains, athleticism, and luck, the Clandestine Quest has everything to do with all those noble traits plus cheating.
Wisely choosing from an array of officially sanctioned cheats, you can ensure your agency's victory. With the purchase of the cheats, you will also ensure that 826 Chicago can continue to offer free writing programs for Chicago youth. Begins Sunday, March 10th. | 6:23 pm [snowykitten] |
Any Chicago area dog lovers who can help this dog out?
"Sweetie" is an 8-10 year old dog who was abandoned on the streets of Chicago by her owner and is now at animal control. She is blind but because dogs rely more on smell than sight she would be able to adapt to a home. Sadly she is running out of time at animal control. A foster home or adopter needs to be found in the next 24 hours or she will be put to sleep. You can see a video of this sweet girl here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rahuc2IlNDIInfo on how to foster/adopt is here: http://www.facebook.com/note.php?created&¬e_id=283402801673010Or you can become friends with Adopt a Pittie from the City to ask them to pull her for you: https://www.facebook.com/adoptapittieShe is timid and it's thought she would do best in a home without other animals or a very calm dog. Please, even if you can't adopt her yourself, spread the word to others who might be able to help this poor sweetheart out and save a life! Sorry if anyone doesn't like that I posted this here but I was hoping that someone here might be able to help her out. | | Monday, February 20th, 2012 | 8:50 pm [jenniferblaufra]

Chicago restaurant for client lunch?
Hi! Can anyone recommend a good local, non-chain restaurant for a client lunch? Up to $15-20 a plate, good atmosphere, nothing snooty, not so loud that we can't talk. I've looked at a dozen restaurant lists, but nothing is jumping out at me. Thanks! | | Friday, October 28th, 2011 | 8:57 am [_shaomao_]

bill questions
I'm taking a quick poll. How much do you spend a month on cable TV and internet?Any ideas on how to cut these down are greatly appreciated. I'm trying to cut down my bills a little. Wireless internet is a non-negotiable necessity. I'd be happy to ditch cable but my husband needs access to NYC sporting events for his freelance work as a sports writer, and even with today's myriad options for TV watching (hulu, iTunes, mlb.tv, netflix, etc) there doesn't seem to be a good option for that. Even just hearing what other people spend per month on these services would help me. Currently we pay $67.50 for internet every month and ~$90 per month for DirecTV. Together those feel way too steep. Thanks in advance! | | Sunday, September 11th, 2011 | 12:58 pm [ptitsa]

when talking to lj just isn't enough... hey folks! I'm looking for a good therapist/counselor within the city. (I'm not opposed to traveling to greater Chicagoland but would prefer to have someone a little closer). I currently live in Uptown and have been browsing yelp reviews but I'm looking for input wherever I can get it. thanks! :]

Drive-In Movies?
Hi! Hope everybody is having a great 4th of July weekend so far! I'm hoping you guys can help me out. I've always wanted to go to a drive-in movie theatre, but never been. I know there are ones reasonably near Chicago. Which one(s) do you recommend? | | Sunday, June 26th, 2011 | 3:04 am [body_song]

Community DJs! I'm moving to Chicago in about a month and would love to starting DJing at a community/college radio station. I just graduated college and was really into the radio station there, I had a great show and know that I'll miss it - so I want to take my show over to Chicago!
I've been looking at Chicago radio stations that allow for community (non-student) DJs and I want to know if there are any community DJs here who are willing to lend their experience with any specific station. Basically I want to know the following:
- What station did you work for?
- What was the show application process like for a non-student DJ?
- Does the station you DJ for have an extensive library? Does the station allow you to bring in your own music/order for the library if you can't find what you want?
- Did you feel like you had a lot of freedom in choosing the music you wanted to play? (Keeping within the genre of your show, of course.)
- How did you like the people who worked there/overall environment?
- Anything else you can add about that particular station you worked for (like if you were involved in anything else besides being a DJ).
Thank you for any help you can give me! | | Tuesday, June 21st, 2011 | 3:24 pm [areia]

Management company recommendation
I'm considering renting out my Uptown condo rather than trying to sell in the current market, and since I'll likely be out of the city I may need to use a management company to handle the property. Any recommendations for such a company from the property owner point of view? Are any of them marginally less evil? | | Sunday, June 5th, 2011 | 10:14 am [frozen_fields]

Need a jeweler
I just inherited a really nice engagement ring, just a beautiful setting. Unfortunately, it doesn't have a stone. I also got a masonic snake ring dating to the 1920's that needs repair. Does anyone have recs for a jeweler to: a. sell me a non-diamond stone (probably garnet) and put it into a setting that I provide. b. repair a elderly gold ring? I'm on the NW side, but I am out by O'hare a lot, and i have a car and am willing to travel anywhere in the greater Chicagoland area if I can find a place to get this done. Suggestions? | | Friday, May 27th, 2011 | 1:29 pm [le_trombone]

Piper's Alley Closes Curtains Close on AMC Piper's Alley. Piper's Alley (1608 N. Wells St) is something that provoked mixed feelings for me. I never really liked it as a theater (and I may be unfair, as my last visit was pretty good, so maybe whatever I disliked about it was fixed), and it was definitely out of the way for me. Still, I can't imagine the people who live in the area are happy about this. | | Thursday, May 26th, 2011 | 4:16 pm [frozen_fields]

hedgehog owners
hi all, just wanted to see if there are any hedgehog owners out there in the city. I myself have two. I'd be interested to connect with other owners, talk about exotics vets, and stuff. I am also a rescue station representing Hedgehog Welfare Society. | | Tuesday, May 17th, 2011 | 12:32 am [sashura]
