Welcome to chicagochat!

The place to meet, chat, greet, and otherwise banter about the City of Chicago! Whether you are a current Chicago resident, an expatriate, planning to move here, or just an occasional visitor with a fondness for the city...
by all means join!

There are but a few simple rules regarding posts in this community.

1. Read through the tagged posts before posting – your question may have already been answered.
2. Please remember that in order to get a good answer, you have to ask a good question. Vague posts like “What is there to do in Chicago?” have a good chance of being ignored, ridiculed, or deleted, so choose your questions wisely.
3. All posts must have a descriptive subject line, and all posts must be tagged using the pre-set tags. Mods will ask you nicely to use a subject line. Repeated failure to do so will result in a banning.
4. All posts other than event postings and social postings (i.e. “I want friends in Chicago add me back plz!”) must be tagged. If you don’t think any of the existing tags are appropriate, tag it as “other”. The mods will periodically evaluate the tags to see if new tags are needed. Mods will ask you nicely to tag. Repeated failure to do so will result in a banning.
5. If your post is long and/or graphics intensive, use the lj-cut tag. “Long” would be defined as more than one screen of text/graphics. If you’re questioning if your post is too long, it probably is.
6. Any NSFW graphics should be placed behind a cut that marks them as NSFW, regardless of post length.
7. This is a community about Chicago and the Chicago-land area. Please try and stay on-topic.
8. Event postings and for-sale postings are ok. We probably won’t come see your band play, but you’re welcome to tell us about it. If there will be several events over the course of a month, please consolidate into one post.
9. Standalone commercial postings are NOT ok and will be deleted. However, if somebody asks about a service and you happen to provide that service, leaving a comment with your business’s info is a-ok.
10. Don’t delete or turn off comments. This is a discussion community. Doing this will result in banning.
11. No community promos. There is a posting here that's got a listing of other Chicago communities we know about. Feel free to add yours there and I will update the main posting periodically.

Please consider that in order to get the best answers, you have to ask good, DETAILED questions. :-)
